Nature conservation and landscape preservation have a special significance in Espelkamp. The Gabelweiher also called Gabelhorst Weiher is a lake of about 1.6 hectares in Espelkamp. The Gabelweiher is not an officially designated bathing lake - for this purpose the city of Espelkamp has the Kleihügelsee just under 2 kilometers to the west. Nevertheless, as a quickly accessible water area in the area of Espelkamp's city center, the lake has its importance as a recreation area and green lung for walks and jogging laps. The lake is surrounded by green areas and beautiful trees. The lake is surrounded by lawns and small woods, which are regularly used for picnics and sunbathing. A water feature is installed on the lake.
